When Latin Met Hip-Hop

About this playlist

All right, we admit that's a problematic title. After all, Latinos have been a part of hip-hop since its inception. And the Latin music industry has been churning out hip-hop (from reggaeton to rap in Español) for decades. But true crossovers between Latin pop and mainstream hip-hop have been fairly rare -- until recently. Over the past decade or so, Latin music has broadened and expanded both its sound and its audience, while mainstream/stateside genres like hip-hop and R&B have started eyeing the Latin music market. The result is that a number of pretty fly collabos between English-language urban stars and Latin pop stars have cropped up of late, from Wisin y Yandel's smash partnering with Chris Brown on last year's "Algo Me Gusta De Ti" to the just-dropped French Montana-Daddy Yankee joint, "Self Made."
