Twangin' Country Trios

About this playlist

Ahhh, the awe-inspiring power of three. In nature, three represents the relationship between body, mind and soul; in religion, the trinity of the Holy Spirit; in comedy, there's the Larry, Curly and Moe triumvirate. Anyway, the new Rascal Flatts album, Changed, got me thinking about musical trios. With ease I could toss up The Police, The Supremes, The Bee Gees, The Beastie Boys, etc., but when I tried to narrow the focus to just country music, it took a good long while to come up with a handful of contenders.

Surely the members of Rascal Flatts know a thing or two about achieving the right balance in a band: a dozen years into their career, Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus are still on top of their game. And no one can deny the recent success of Lady Antebellum or brother-sister act The Band Perry; the striking appeal of those familial harmonies is indisputable. Gloriana recently slimmed down from a quartet to a trio and are apparently quite happy with the change.

I put on my thinking cap and came up with this playlist. Hit play to hear decades' worth of the best trios country music has to offer.
