The World of Brian Eno

About this playlist

For a man who has famously claimed to be a non-musician, Brian Eno has amassed an impressive discography over the decades. He started out as the synthesizer wizard for Roxy Music in the early '70s, earning attention for his electronic treatment of the other band members' instruments as well as for his own sonic statements. That knack for being as much a shaper of sounds as anything else aided him not only in fashioning the eccentric art rock of his early solo albums and the electronic textures of his pioneering ambient excursions, but also in establishing himself as a producer. Besides blazing trails that rockers and electronic artists would follow for decades, Eno oversaw the production of seminal albums by everyone from Devo and Talking Heads to U2. Throw in collaborations with the likes of David Bowie, John Cale and, most recently, Underworld's Karl Hyde, sprinkle in his sessions with Nico, Robert Wyatt and countless others, and it all adds up to a hell of a career. Daunting as a legacy of such proportions may be, you can sample an ample amount of Eno's output right here.
