The Mark Lanegan Primer

About this playlist

Mark Lanegan recently collaborated with eclectic British multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood on an album called Black Pudding. The stark record is the latest addition to the grit-voiced musician's sprawling catalog, which has touched on junkyard folk, sparse blues, vintage country and even subtle electronica. After fronting underrated psych-grunge band Screaming Trees during the '80s and'90s, Lanegan joined stoner-rock kingpins Queens of the Stone Age and, later, collaborated with Afghan Whigs' Greg Dulli in the harrowing Gutter Twins, and recorded dusty duets with former Belle and Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell. The dour, introspective Lanegan has also kept up a robust solo career, frequently lending his gravelly vocals to other artists' songs (The Breeders, Melissa Auf Der Maur, UNKLE, Moby) and soundtracks. Here's a broad overview of his career highlights.
