The Kurt Vile Primer

About this playlist

From underground lo-fi rock hero to classic/roots-rock-revivalist extraordinaire, Kurt Vile has transformed into something of a modern-day Tom Petty or Neil Young -- and you can't get much more esteemed than that. The Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter worked as a forklift driver before forming indie-rock band The War on Drugs in 2005. The band released debut Wagonwheel Blues in 2008, the same year Vile released his solo debut, Constant Hitmaker. From there, his blue-collar laments and intricate guitar skills have progressed into epic, poignant, hypnotic rock grooves for life's more reflective moments. Here, we've got a sampling of tracks from every step of his career thus far, from his humble beginnings to 2013's acclaimed Wakin on a Pretty Daze.
