The 24-Hour Apocalypse

The 24-Hour Apocalypse

About this playlist

December 21, 2012, will go down in history as a perfectly normal day that was once jokingly touted by many media outlets as The End of the World, thanks to the Mayans. Thankfully the predictions were off, but the spectacle inspired an idea: What would a playlist of only final songs from albums sound like? (No bonus tracks, mind you.) From "Train in Vain" to "Redemption Song" to, yes, "The End." Eventually, this idea got extended to a full 24-hour playlist, which I completed just in time for December 21 itself. The playlist was crafted with the idea that the music would start at midnight with a dance party, then go through the cycle of a day and end the following midnight as if it were truly the last day on earth. The songs here range from pop hits to ambient drone to experimental music, from ABBA to Fugazi to Bee Gees to Frank Sinatra to Daft Punk. Enjoy, and just for your information, R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" was only the end of Side 1.
