Songwriter Spotlight: Shane McAnally

About this playlist

First hitting country radio with 1999's "Say Anything," a solo tune imploring a lover to break the silence, Shane McAnally didn't crack the top 30 until nearly a decade later, when he moved from behind the mic to behind the scenes, penning Lee Ann Womack's punning, heartbreaking drunk-dial ballad "Last Call." In the five years since, McAnally has moved from tallying top 30s to tallying No. 1s, scoring two with Kenny Chesney ("Come Over," which narrates a drunk-dial booty call from the other perspective, and "Somewhere with You," which finds the characteristically laid-back singer feeling a little desperate) and one with The Band Perry ("Better Dig Two"). The appended playlist compiles his best tracks, everything from Luke Bryan and Uncle Kracker singles to Kacey Musgraves deep cuts.
