About this playlist

Country music's "it" producer Dave Cobb started out on the other side of mixing board, playing guitar in the band The Tender Idols. When the band broke up, Cobb packed his bags and headed to L.A., where he started producing rock bands. A mutual friend introduced him to Shooter Jennings, and that led to a lifelong friendship -- as well as a gig producing Jennings' boorishly-titled, Put the O Back in Country. After moving back to Nashville, Cobb started working with musicians who appreciated the uncluttered, honeyed sound of old-school country. If country radio was leaning toward a sound rife with electronic hip-hop beats and metallic guitar riffs, Cobb offered the exact opposite. And yet, the outsider slowly begin building an impressive track record that included highly-regarded albums from Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, A Thousand Horses, Chris Stapleton and most recently, newcomer Anderson East. And whether you call it country, Americana, alt-country or something else, the common denominator is a sound that is respectful to its forebearers, yet gleefully colors outside of the lines. Hit play and discover some of Dave Cobb's work.
