About this playlist

With exceptions like the world-beloved Weezer ("Photograph," "No One Else") and the expert Third Eye Blind (just plot out the rhythm of Stephan Jenkins' advanced rapping on "Semi-Charmed Life"), most power pop turned out to not be so popular after all, despite its catchiness and craft. Still, it bloomed as a songform with cult classics like Sloan's smart-aleck "Underwhelmed" ("Her spelling's atrocious"), Marvelous 3's New Wave throwback "Freak of the Week" and several Shins ("Know Your Onion!") and New Pornographers ("The Body Says No") songs that would've seen a Beatles-esque run on the radio in an alternate (not just alternative) universe.
