Meet Blind Willie McTell

About this playlist

Blind Willie McTell played a highly distinctive combination of Delta blues, ragtime, gospel and double entendre referred to as Piedmont blues. One of the very first blues musicians to be recorded, he almost always used a 12-string guitar. And with a super-laid-back vocal delivery and songs peppered with the slickest lingo detailing doomed women, gamblers' graves being dug with the ace of spades and a variety of dirty-minded innuendos, he is on the short list of coolest bluesmen ever. This playlist will hopefully serve as a good intro for newcomers while satisfying the acolytes. Do not miss “Dying Crapshooter’s Blues.”
