Hot R&B Singles, September 2012

About this playlist

Our latest collection of new R&B singles has an unofficial theme of career comebacks. Mariah Carey, who is relaunching her brand via the American Idol judges' table, offers "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" in a rap version with Rick Ross and Meek Mill, alongside a "vintage throwback mix" for her fans who don't like all that rappity-rap stuff. The-Dream, who's still looking to cash in on his considerable influence in R&B, returns with "Dope B*tch," the lead single from his forthcoming Love IV. Brandy continues to build toward her big comeback album, Two Eleven, with a new teaser single, "Wildest Dreams." Ne-Yo is bouncing back from the disappointing sales of 2010's Libra Scale with October's R.E.D.; the latest teaser is "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)."

Elsewhere, don't sleep on PJ Morton, a veteran Atlanta soul/gospel artist who recently signed with Cash Money Records and bows here with "Lover," featuring Lil Wayne. Weirdly, Lil Wayne appears on several of these tracks, including Keyshia Cole's "Enough of No Love" and Kelly Rowland's "ICE"; the latter reunites Rowland and Weezy after last year's hit collaboration "Motivation." And hey, we have an Anita Baker sighting! The '80s quiet storm queen has just released "Lately," with plans to drop her first album in eight years, Only Forever, this October.
