Hot New Latin Tracks: August 2014

About this playlist

It's been a long, hot season for Enrique Iglesias, whose "Bailando," featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente De Zona, will be remembered as 2014's Spanish-language summer song. A perfect combination of flamenco and reggaeton beats with catchy pop lyrics, the track scored another international hit for Iglesias while bringing Cuban artists who live in Cuba (Gente De Zona) to the top of the U.S. Latin song charts for the first time since before Fidel Castro came to power in 1959. "Bailando" also brings deserved recognition to Bueno, a fellow Cuban and a songwriter whose talent transcends borders.

Colombian reggaeton-pop artist J Balvin may look back and remember the summer of 2014 as the most important of his career. Over the past few months his "6 AM" has competed with "Bailando" for the title of top Latin summer song. Balvin collaborator Farruko, another young artist leading the comeback of reggaeton, sweetened his summer with another hit collaboration, "Passion Whine" featuring Sean Paul. And as summer comes to a close, 2014 World Cup songs start to fade, while Romeo Santos' popularity shows no signs of cooling down.
