Have Another Side of Korn!

About this playlist

So, Korn just put out a new studio album -- their 11th in 19 years, believe it or not -- called The Paradigm Shift. But despite how prolific they've been, Korn's members all manage to fit in more music-making even when they're not Korning. This playlist shows some ways how.

Singer Jonathan Davis' career, for instance, just grows more and more tentacles. He has put out solo records backed by the SFA, and last year he initiated a dubstep project called Killbot. Those are both sampled in this playlist, along with remixes he has produced (sometimes under the tag JDevil) for Rob Zombie, Hollywood Undead and Steve Aoki (featuring Sick Boy and ex-members of Die Kreuzen and The Exploited). He's also made guest appearances on several other artists' tracks, metal and otherwise -- among them Linkin Park, Orgy, Limp Bizkit, Sepultura, Suicide Silence, dubstep DJ Datsik, rapper Xzibit and fellow Bakersfield, Calif., industrial band Videodrone, who went so far as to name their 1999 collaboration "Ty Jonathan Down."

Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch appeared on a Videodrone track called "Power Tools for Girls" that same year. Last year, he made a cameo on a song by the Christian rock band Project 86. He now moonlights in his own Christian nü metal band, Love + Death, and during his temporary split from Korn a few years ago, he put out an album and single under his own name.

This mix also includes music from Fear and the Nervous System, a side-project quintet of Korn's other guitarist, James "Munky" Shaffer; and StillWell, the side band of bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu. Finally, tracks by Billy Sheehan and David Lee Roth are just two of the countless studio sessions that drummer Ray Luzier has contributed to over the years. All of which demonstrate that it is possible to be in Korn without always being Korny -- who knew?
