Fast Cars and Hard Raps

About this playlist

On a clear black night with a clear white moon, there's nothing like rolling with our homies through the city's streets, looking for something to get into. On those days, the automobile is like a home away from home. It's where we kick it with the potnas, smoke out and maybe sip a little somethin' (designated driver!), and, if we've really got game, turn our car into a "hotel on wheels," as Jay-Z put it in "Parking Lot Pimpin'." We're kings and queens of castles that must be defended at all costs, and we'll pop the trunk if the jackers come 'round. We lavish it with attention by adding details like sparkling 24-inch tire rims, a wood-grain dashboard, and a candy paint finish.

So much hip-hop music is about car culture, from countless album covers depicting a favorite ride (like Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city) to OutKast's "Two Dope Boyz (In a Cadillac)," Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame's "Ferrari Boyz," and Rick Ross' "Aston Martin Music." Because let's face it -- at the end of the day, driving beats walking. Our cars are better than your shoes.
