Country Spring Break

About this playlist

There's a long tradition of music that evokes the carefree feeling of the beach, from kids doing the shag to The Drifters and The Dominoes lighting up the Carolina coast to The Beach Boys making everyone an honorary Californian. In the late '70s, Jimmy Buffett brought us Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Atttitudes and soon became a genre unto himself, taking fans on a trip to Margaritaville no matter the season.

Buffett started his career in country music, and his influence is wide. Kenny Chesney was the first to pattern himself after the King of the Caribbean; youngsters like hottie Luke Bryan have since made a career of taking people on a feel-good spin (his new Spring Break … Here to Party compiles years of beach-themed EPs). The two represent different ends of the spectrum, Chesney with his laid-back island feel, Bryan feeding the anything-goes spring break revelers. Meanwhile, jam band faves Zac Brown Band continue to follow Buffett's lead, while Dierks Bentley and Eric Church have blazed their own good-time trails. So whether you're headed to the beach this spring break or just dreaming, this one's for you.
