ATL Rap Now

About this playlist

The Atlanta rap scene always seems in flux, with new names ascending as local trends evolve in unusual ways. This year finds many of the city's biggest artists doubling down on the sometimes Auto-Tuned crooning that Future popularized, from Young Thug and K Camp to Rich Homie Quan and, surprisingly, Travis Porter. Yet there's We Are Toonz, best known for the "Nae Nae" fad, and Migos of "Hannah Montana" and "Versace" fame, evoking silly Dirty South dance seasons of yore. Que, who just released his debut, [Who Is Que.], brings back the gritty trap chants that once typified underground Atlanta. And Curtis Williams is a real enigma who threads a needle between indie rap sounds and hardcore street rhymes. With Future's highly anticipated new album on the horizon, no one knows where the ATL sound will head next. One thing's for certain: Georgia's capital remains the hottest city in mainstream rap music.
