Artist Spotlight: The Replacements

About this playlist

The Replacements -- Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson -- are reuniting for a few shows this summer, which, even without drummer Chris Mars, is a major event. Not just for the old tunes, and oh, the classics are numerous: "Androgynous," "Alex Chilton," "Can't Hardly Wait," "Bastards of Young," "I Will Dare," "Here Comes a Regular," etc., etc. But the two reunion tracks from 2006's best-of comp Don't You Know Who I Think I Was?, "Pool & Dive" and "Message to the Boys," rank high in a fun, inexhaustible catalog that couldn't stay dormant much longer without being kicked out live. Here's hoping they span the deep cuts, from the Slade cover "Gudbuy T'Jane" to the warmly fuzzy "Little Mascara," to those that travel all over the genre map, from the faux-country stomping "Waitress in the Sky" to the hardcore-with-cocktail-jazz-interlude "We're Comin' Out." This is a chance to give a whole new generation of fans a taste of an all-time great band.
