On Warpaint's debut full-length, The Fool, the group filters foggy, moody neo-Sonic Youth indie rock through dub-inspired production. Oh so subtly, voices drop from the ether, reverb bubbles up at deliciously opportune moments and phantom percussion infects the groove. Sure, the record is a tad too clean, as if Warpaint know they're auditioning for a chance to work with Daniel Lanois. But ultimately, The Fool is a scenic drive through the modern dream state.
