Composer Perich keeps finding new ways to develop his glitch-classical aesthetic. He's written pieces for acoustic instruments and 1-bit electronics before (seek out his piece "Formations" on cellist Mariel Roberts' album Nonextraneous Sounds). This time, it's 40 channels of 1-bit digital chirp arrayed against an hour of post-minimalist piano writing, played here by the virtuoso Vicky Chow. Grooving in places like a lo-fi Music for 18 Musicians, it also takes surprising turns, including a baroque-meets-minimalist breakdown a third of the way through. And the ending is gorgeous, too.
