To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Con, Tegan and Sara's complex and slyly brooding indie pop classic, the duo have curated The Con X, a tribute album featuring some of their biggest admirers. For the most part, the artists included in the project bring out the dark themes and emotions wrapped inside Tegan and Sara's effortlessly infectious hooks. PVRIS, for instance, transform "Are You Ten Years Ago" into a sublimely moody slice of 21st-century goth, while Bleachers re-imagines the power pop number "Burn Your Life Down" as an atmospheric ballad buried in sadness. Perhaps the lone exception is Grimes and Hana's "Dark Come Soon," which manages to retain the original's uplifting sense of defiance while at the same time veering off into dream pop hypnotics that will leave listeners feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
