THE BROWN STAINS OF DARKEESE LATIFAH PART 6-12 (REMIX)
Label: Odd Future
The headline-grabbing track here is "Smuckers," where Tyler raps alongside Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Perhaps Tyler aspires to Yeezus-styled provocation, since "Deathcamp" builds along a noisy electric guitar loop, and the title track bores down on hissy drum & bass. He seems less interested in lyrical bars than beats and extending the keyboard soul of Wolf. If only he were a better conceptualist; instead, he bounces between impulses -- the raunch of "Blow My Load," the percussion jukes of "Buffalo" -- without explaining what they mean. It's messy growth, but in other ways he'll never change.
