I Want You (Live @ ISLE of WIGHT-Remastered)
Tony Joe White
Released:

Rhino/Warner Records
Yes, four discs is a lot of Tony Joe White. But the music he recorded in the late '60s for the now-defunct Monument label is nothing short of revelatory. Born and raised in Louisiana, White predated the Southern-rock movement in his hippie-informed fusion of Delta blues, Southern soul and country music. As "Polk Salad Annie" and "Soul Francisco" demonstrate, the dude just loved his swampy funk, coming off like a fusion of Elvis, John Lee Hooker and Hendrix. But with tunes such as "Toil & Trouble" also in his repertoire, he proved to be a socially conscious singer-songwriter as well.
