Released:
Label: City Slang
A decade into their reunion, Tindersticks are showing no signs of restlessness. The Waiting Room may take a gentler approach to the folk-rock the band builds around Stuart Staples' wistful baritone -- the title track contains virtually nothing but Staples and a whispering organ -- but there's usually an orchestral filigree or playfully deployed instrument to catch your ear. Symphonic high point: the way slow-mo duet "Hey Lucinda" fades into a cloud of marimba before giving way to the wordless pulse of "This Fear Of Emptiness." Dramatic high point: the guitar tone on "We Are Dreamers."
