Black Rose: A Rock Legend
Label: Rhino/Warner Records
Black Rose: A Rock Legend capped a string of six perfect albums that began with 1975's Fighting. By the end of the 1970s, Thin Lizzy was in tatters, in particular its artistic core, Phil Lynott. He admitted as much in the savage "Got To Give It Up": "Junk don't take you far," he wails. The album does contain some meaningful positivity, "Do Anything You Want To" first and foremost. But Lynott once again slips into disillusionment on "Get Out of Here"; "I used to be a dreamer," he sang. "But I realized that it's not my style at all."
