I'm A Man
Label: Capitol Records
Between 1965 and '67, the Steve Winwood-led version of The Spencer Davis Group released four now-iconic singles that helped define British beat music, garage rock, boogie rock and blue-eyed soul. It doesn't matter how often you've heard them on your local oldies station, "Gimme Some Lovin'," "Keep on Running," "I'm a Man" and "Somebody Help Me" still possess an ungodly power and energy that can send entire mountain ranges tumbling into the ocean. And let's not forget: Winwood, who sounded like the second coming of Ray Charles, recorded these tracks before his eighteenth birthday. Insane!
