Underwhelming but respectable debut from a band about to trip into greatness. Hints that the 'Mats were more than another punk band were already evident -- the '70s rock guitar work (echoing the Clash's Mick Jones' appreciation of what punks were supposed to hate), and the odd combination of heartfelt melancholy/snotty attitude in the Thunders tribute "Johnny's Gonna Die.
