The Country Gentlemen

The opener here, "Train 45," will slay you, especially Eddie Adcock's spine-cracking banjo runs. The guy, like the great Earl Scruggs, is a high-octane rhythm engine. But he also wanders from a tune's central flow in really interesting ways -- kinda like a jazz cat bobbing 'n' weaving. Of course, the Country Gentlemen aren't getting full-on proggy like the David Grisman Quintet or anything. But they are beginning to look beyond the pasture and they sure do like what they see.
