Everything You Do (You Do For You)
Though songwriting credits are spread across the ensemble, The Arcs’ debut has Dan Auerbach’s sonic print all over it. Much like Dr. John’s Locked Down (which he produced), the music is dense: fuzzy psych licks, corroded reverb, serpentine keys and other textures too smudged for identification. “Everything You Do (You Do For You)” totally nails it; the tune oozes like wet cement from a mixer. There exists no better description of Auerbach and The Arcs’ striking aesthetic than the song title “Velvet Ditch.” The image of dirt and mud lined in dense, ridiculously soft fabric is just too perfect.
