Don't Cry Baby...It's Only A Movie
Label: Damaged Goods
In the early '90s, Dan Treacy's psyche was sinking into drugs and despair. Yet he tried to hold it together and cash in on the successes of Madchester and Brit pop (bandwagons he actually helped build a decade earlier). That didn't work, and by the time of 1998's Don't Cry Baby It's Only a Movie, Treacy was once again allowing his volatile emotions to wreak havoc on his perfect pop. Of course, that's when T.V.P. have always been at their best, but it makes for a tough listen to say the absolute least.
