Released:
Label: Sub Pop Records
Neither Sleater-Kinney's thrilling sonic attack, their knotty melodies, nor the uncanny double-helix of Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein's voices have atrophied in the decade since The Woods, and this album is their hookiest and danciest since 1997's Dig Me Out. "Price Tag" and "No Anthems" barrel forward atop Janet Weiss' lurching beats; on "No Cities to Love" and "Gimme Love," Tucker and Brownstein render that shared word as, respectively, a Jaggeresque rock-star moan and an unintelligible, propulsive stutter. It's impossible not to welcome back a band with so many approaches to love.
