How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?
Label: One Little Indian
To frame this as O'Connor's comeback album would be wrong. She made some very good music in the years following the Pope/Dylan/Madonna fracas. Yet this record possesses a life force that will remind fans why they fell in love with her artistry in the first place. "The Wolf Is Getting Married" and "Reason With Me" are touching, atmospheric soul ballads showcasing the singer's ability to twist defiance and vulnerability around one another. She even unloads a touch of humor about the past: "I wanted to change the world, but I could not even change my underwear," she admits on "Queen of Denmark."
