Shinedown have a hard time distancing themselves from the herd of Nickelback-like rockers that has been stampeding across the pop landscape. As with previous efforts, Amaryllis (Latin for the flower known as "naked lady") contains plenty of pulverizing grooves and furious riffs. Yet there's something about the production that sterilizes the group's potency on too many tracks. The cool thing about Shinedown, though, is their concern for the underdogs and outsiders of the world. Both "Bully" and "Nowhere Kids" hark back to vintage grunge's slacker/loser stance. That's cool.
