Hands To Myself
Label: Selena Gomez PS
This album is a major reboot, something Selena immediately notifies her audience: The opening track declares she’s “reborn in every moment.” Supported by the party faithful and an army of notable friends (Charli XCX lent songwriting aid to “Same Old Love,” A$AP Rocky half-apologized about messing up her image), the former Disney star embraces streetwise beats and even a little, ahem, adult content. Offstage highs and lows from the past few years worm their way into the album’s subtext -- how could they not? But this revival is less about breakups and more about onstage confidence.
