Roy Ayers is the premier vibraphonist in American music, and is hero to both acid jazz musicians and hip-hop crate diggers. This compilation of unreleased material from Ayers' Virgin years (1976-1981) demonstrates why. It spans from post-Axelrod dramatic jazz to pre-disco funk, and contains at least a half-dozen genuinely great tracks. For anyone looking for the blueprint of their favorite genre, or for those just wanting some great music to groove to, peep out this excellent compilation.
