I Often Dream of Trains

It's the balance between evocative ballads and cheeky, far-out fantasies that makes this 1984 Robyn Hitchcock LP his most enduring solo work. He's imagining himself as a pretty girl so he can "oop" himself in the shower one moment and use grand architecture as a metaphor for the immensity of love the next. It's certainly weird -- the psycho-sexual a cappella analysis of "Uncorrected Personality Traits" is downright cracked -- but undeniably brilliant.
