The ghost of the legendary trumpeter Miles Davis wafts through this experimental project helmed by acclaimed jazz pianist Robert Glasper. Serving as producer, Glasper has assembled something that’s partially a remix album of Davis’ tracks, yet mostly a covers suite. Each cut features a different voice, including Erykah Badu on “Maiysha” and longtime friend Bilal on “Ghetto Walkin’,” the latter a strident protest against the mortality rate of blacks in America. The songs are constructed around an element of Miles’ studio outtakes, like when he riffs “Wait a minute, wait a minute” as Ledisi threatens to dump a bad boyfriend on “I’m Leaving You,” or when Georgia Anne Muldrow mutates his horn sound into a loop on “Milestones.” Everything’s Beautiful’s best tracks depart from Glasper’s famed neo-soul Black Radio template, especially as Hiatus Kaiyote heads into orchestral abstraction on “Little Church” and KING floats on the airy soul cloud that is “Song for Selim.”
