Label: Sony Music Latin
Three albums in, it's safe to say Royce embodies today's young Latin pop. Which is why it's so surprising Soy sounds so ... old. We're referring to his voice and presence, which have both matured greatly (check that sultry, all-grown purr in "Te Robaré" or his Timberlakian swagger in "Te Regalo"). But we're also talking about the synths-n-strings adult contemporary aesthetic of many of his bachata songs. It's like the harder other bachateros get, the soft-rockier Royce goes. The pop tracks (including a duet with Selena Gomez) and the Blu Cantrell bite on "Me Encanta!" offer a bit more edge.
