Lawn Boy by Phish

In the late '80s, Phish wandered the northeastern United States blowing away young neo-hippies with their marathon jams and fusion-stained improvisations. In the studio, however, they chose to tighten up their sound, emphasizing instead the quirky pop-rock tunes buried inside their improv. Their second full-length, 1990's Lawn Boy, has more in common with Frank Zappa and NRBQ than it does The Grateful Dead, actually. A few songs do contain extended instrumental passages ("Reba" and "Run Like An Antelope" being the obvious examples), but even on these the group is concise and to the point.
