On the follow-up to 2011's Replica, Oneohtrix Point Never proves that he's not only one of contemporary ambient music's most engrossing musicians, he's also one of the most playful. Tumbling into a dream world of pristine digital synthesis and New Age abstraction, he beams back a dizzy swirl of bird song, rainforest drums, hiccupping choral samples and cotton-candy atmospheres. Rapid-fire pulsations often take on the character of Steve Reich, while glassy, plastic timbres nod to Deep Forest's ersatz "ethnic" obsessions. As "Chrome Country" suggests, this is a new world with new rules.
