Folks Like Us
Label: Blaster Records
Their big label and radio hit years behind them, country's most resentfully rocking duo now sing more than ever in the past tense, about times and places long gone: "We Were Here," the first track's called, about how "we used to own this town" and lost innocence to AC/DC before paradise got paved. They end showing off the same tattoos and scars they named their 1999 debut album after. Their "boot-wearin', God-fearin'" demographic has seen better days, but between he-man harmonies and huge guitars -- grooving almost Santana-style in "Back on a Dirt Road" -- they still make the pain feel real.
