Just Right for Me
Label: RCA RECORDS LABEL
Monica’s seventh album is more lively than her 2012 effort, New Life. The frenetic title track finds her reuniting with Missy Elliott, years after their “Get It Off” hit, and she crows, “Turn off the radio/We don’t wanna hear your sh*t no more.” She collaborates with Lil Wayne on “Just Right for Me,” Timbaland on “All Men Lie,” and Akon on “Hustler’s Ambition.” With so many urban stars past their early aughts peak, it seems as if Code Red is partly about growing older. “I miss music,” Monica sings. At least she doesn’t sound depressed about it, and tracks like “Love Just Ain’t Enough,” “Suga” and “Deep” have plenty of life in them.
