Mozart: Piano Concerto No..18, K.456 & No.19, K.459
Label: Decca Music Group Ltd.
Despite being billed second, Mozart's 19th is up first (Tracks 1-3). It's nice, but Uchida has a particular affection for the comparatively neglected 18th (Tracks 4-6), and it shows. The "Andante un poco sostenuto" is a lyric dream, and the subtle adventurism of the finale is a showpiece for her Mozart technique (which is simultaneously dazzling and not-too-much). Cleveland may not be the first orchestra that comes to mind when you think of this repertoire -- you might prefer to hear Uchida with Berlin and Simon Rattle -- but they ably support Uchida, who conducts from the piano.
