Certainly a twisted love of the piano in Jane Campion's 1993 film The Piano was rendered more tenderly with this Michael Nyman soundtrack, a collection of sweet, consonant minimalist strings; romantic piano passages ("Big My Secret"); and the occasional renaissance interlude. No track spoke to audiences more than "The Heart Asks Pleasure First," a legato-filled love anthem with an unforgettable melody.
