Label: Memory Tapes
The late '00s "chillwave" phenomenon may be quickly forgotten, but Memory Tapes' debut album should handily outlast it. No matter what you call it, there's something both immediate and enduring about the New Jersey musician's strange, comforting electronic pop. He manages to pull together strands of everything from Daft Punk to the Cocteau Twins into a loose, woolly weave, with hushed acoustic instruments and wide-open reverb further blurring the edges. Closely harmonized vocals lend a heady extra dimension to Memory Tapes' expansive brand of dream pop.
