Some Time Alone, Alone
Label: Fat Possum Records
This dream-psych-pop project led by French singer Melody Prochet and guided by Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker is a time machine back to 1960s Paris. Prochet's wispy cooing -- mostly in English, sometimes French -- is like the central focus of a kaleidoscope, with Parker's cosmic layers providing swirling colors and shapes that transform and accentuate it. Electronic effects echo and wobble as pristine guitar solos snake through the psychedelic haze; it feels a little like Broadcast or Stereolab passing through a lava lamp. Go straight to "Crystallized" to reach maximum hypnosis.
