Maurice Steger's nimble performance makes this album of Italian Baroque recorder works with the period ensemble La Castella a delight. Along with those of Vivaldi and Corelli, there are wonderful works by relatively unknown composers, such as "La Bernabea" by Giovanni Mealli. The recorder's occasionally odd harmonics come in stark juxtaposition to the crack ensemble mostly as the instrument is very high in the recording's mix.
