At the dawn of the 1980s, America discovered hip-hop through a stream of great singles. Once British impresario (and Sex Pistols manager) Malcolm McLaren heard the rap revolution he realized that his inability to carry a tune was no longer a hindrance. When he adopted hip-hop with world beat sounds and a radio duo called the World's Famous Supreme Team Show, McLaren came up with the first cohesive hip-hop concept album. It's often reviled by critics because McLaren is a pasty-white global plunderer -- but black America didn't care and rightfully turned "Buffalo Gals" and "Double Dutch" into hits.
