Lucifer Leviathan Logos
Label: Cruz Del Sur Music
This Norwegian power-doom squad debuts at album-length fully formed, with riffs so lucid and gigantic, vocals so self-assured and tuneful, and song structures so regal and uplifting that it doesn't even matter if all the lyrics are occult nonsense borrowed from H.P. Lovecraft (sampled via an Atlanta theater company in "The Innsmouth Look") and Aleister Crowley. Despite no lack of tools in their kit to keep the magick moving -- spoken monologue, operatic climax, blues leads, blue-eyed falsetto, monkish chorale, jazz-fusion atmosphere, rolling drums, cowbell -- 37 minutes is about perfect, too.
