Self-produced with an echoing sparseness and studio additives more akin to current hip-hop, R&B or synth-pop than anything out of Nashville, Brice's third album exemplifies how so-called bro-country is steering the genre into new sonic waters. Tracks like "Good Man" (where he flips some fast Bone Thugs flow) and "Girls in Bikinis" (where he plays all the instruments, Prince-style) feel downright homemade. "Always the Only One" is yacht-rock smooth, and in "No Better Than This" he lets his vocals run wild. But where his ambition most pays off is the odd, sexy, violent dream fantasy "Sirens."
