Label: Raven Marching Band
Over a winning series of albums, Laura Veirs has come off like a more muscular Feist and a more delicate, folk-pop Neko Case, yet hasn't enjoyed the (deserved) crossover success of either. There is so much to cherish here, like the gorgeous "I Can See Your Tracks," "Summer Is the Champion" (a hand-clapping indie hit in waiting) and the Stuart Murdoch-worthy "Make Something Good." Need more convincing? The chamber arrangements are often felt rather than heard, and My Morning Jacket's Jim James supplies backing vocals.
